1869 Original Church Building
An active Methodist Society was meeting in Mt. Vernonin the year 1852.Following the CivilWar in the year 1866, the Methodist Church was reorganized, and in 1869 the first building was constructed at the corner of Cherry and Hazel at a value of $1,800. The building was improved and a cornerstone for the construction was laid in 1891. The building was completed in 1892 and valued at $6,000.
1958 Church Remodeled
In 1958, an attractive educational structure was added and the new campus wasvalued at $100,000. Over the years, changes took place and the main edifice was remodeled. A consecration service held on November 5, 1972. In August, 1995 a second worship service was initiated to accommodate the worship attendance.
2002 New Church Building and Location
In 1996, a Study Committee began to consider the matter of renovating or relocating the church. In August, 1998, ten acres of land was purchased at a price of $115,000 at 621 West Sloan Street, Mt. Vernon, for the purpose of constructing a new campus. This vision became a reality on July 18, 2001 when the congregation broke ground for a 15,000 square feet building, containing a worship center seating 400, a fellowship hall, classroom space and a kitchen. The congregation moved into the new facility on Sunday, May 5, 2002 and Bishop Ann B. Sherer, consecrated the building on October 27, 2003.
